Former Sox Pitcher Schilling Helped with Brown Campaign...or Maybe Coakley Just Screwed Herself

As a guy who bleeds Red Sox scarlet, and knowing that the 2004 World Series would never, ever be possible without him, it always kills me a little on the inside to find out that Schilling is a Republican.

Even though almost every other player on the Red Sox during the 2004 season (including some of the ownership) were pulling for Massachusetts senator John Kerry (the Democrat) to defeat incumbent president George W. Bush (the idiot), Schilling still made it well known that he was a Republican, and was pulling for Bush.

Another reason why the Democrats are losing ground in the most Liberal state east of the Mississippi is because Kerry gave the worst answer ever when asked who his favorite Red Sox player was: Manny Ortez.

I think he meant Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz.

Which bring us to the Democrat in the recent Massachusetts senator race: Martha Coakley. Coakley called Schilling a Yankee Fan. And that's like Ringo Starr saying his favorite Beatle is Mike Shinoda. She also misspelled Massachusetts in a campaign ad.

Which is why, two days before the Massachusetts special election, I threw my support behind Scott Brown.

It's the little things that win elections, and Coakley didn't do any of them right. Scott Brown (and his truck) seemed much more accessible to the more centered voters of Mass.

As a Democrat, one can only hope that this is merely a fluke, and that Republicans won't start winning other states (like New Hampshire or, God forbid, Maine) this November.
